An eight-ray star stands at the centre of every panel and repeats across the floor without a break. Oak holds the background — cut diagonally, so that a herringbone forms in the corners. Ash fills the star with twelve fan-shaped wedges, walnut edges it and sets four triangles in the middle. The combination in the photograph is one of the possible ones — each of the three woods can be changed for a lighter or a darker one. It works in large hallways and formal living rooms.
