Wide bands in two directions cross at 45° and rule the floor into large diamonds. At every crossing a small light square is set in — a minor detail, but it is exactly what ties the grid together. Inside the diamonds the boards run parallel, in their natural tone: the oak holds the field, the bands are doussie, the small squares — ash. The combination is easily rearranged — the bands can go darker for a stricter look, the field lighter.
