Two strips, nothing more: dark red doussie on the outside and cream ash on the inside, butted one against the other. A thin border that separates the laid field from the perimeter row without arguing with it. The two tones can be changed freely — a lighter ash, a darker wood on the outside, or the other way round; the line stays a line. It works where the parquet is meant to lead the eye, not the frieze.
