A twisted rope — a pale band that turns over at an even pitch, with a thin dark cord running through it. Walnut is the background between the turns and the two wide rails, ash makes the rope itself and the fan in the corner, oak stays the field outside, wenge draws the cord. The corner is a separate square with a palmette. The woods here are one possible reading — each can be swapped for a lighter or a darker one without touching the pattern. A classical frame for a sitting room or a dining room.
