A classical acanthus sweep — large spirals turn over into one another, and leaves spring out between them. The corner is a separate piece: a rounded arc with a palmette at its centre. The ash holds the light field, the walnut frames the band on both sides, the wenge draws the thin stringers, the oak gives the gold in the spirals, and the doussie puts the brick colour into the leaves. The woods here are a suggestion; we change any of them and the pattern stays the same. It carries large halls and formal corridors.
