Versailles Frieze

A twisted rope — the same slanted strand repeats along the whole length and creates a sense of relief, although the floor is flat. Doussie makes the dark threads and the thin edgings, the oak stays between them as the light gap. The corner is a separate small square with a circle at the centre, which stops the rope and picks it up again. The two woods change freely — a lighter background or a darker thread, the rhythm is the same.
