Beatrice Rosette 1

A circle with a serrated outline — eight notches around the perimeter break the line. The oak is the background under everything, wenge outlines the diamond and the thin lines, the ash draws the light curls and the drops, doussie gives the brick-coloured tongues, and the walnut the body of the acanthus leaves. At the centre stands a fan of ash, held in a ring of doussie. Each of the five woods will take a substitution — lighter or darker — and the pattern stays unchanged.
