Two mirrored curves chase one another in the circle and close into each other — a pattern with no beginning and no end. The oak runs fanwise from the centre and holds the whole field; wenge draws out the thin lines of the movement, doussie carries the red bodies and the ribbons, and the ash lifts the light tongues at the ends. The combination in the photograph is one of the possible ones — any of the four woods can be changed for another while the pattern stays the same. It works in a wide hallway, where there is room to see the whole of it.
