Four scallop shells come together in a cross and each is set into its own ring — the rings interlace at the centre. The shells are cherry, ruled into a fan of thin wenge lines; the dark red doussie holds the background, the oak runs in the rings and the outer edging, the ash outlines the contours and the four corner palmettes. The combination in the photograph is one of the possible ones — every wood can be replaced with another without the pattern changing. It works well in an entrance hall or under a table in a dining room.
