Twelve curved rays open out from a light centre towards the edge — curved fields are left between them, and dark stringers follow every arc. The cutting is curvilinear across the whole field, without a single straight line. Oak carries the rays and the outer frame, walnut fills the fields between them, wenge draws the stringers and the ring, ash keeps the centre light. This combination is only one of the readings — any of the four woods can be replaced without touching the shape.
