A circle in three bands. On the outside runs an acanthus ornament — dark leaves and scrolls on a light field; then comes a ring of close to fifty radial wedges, separated by pale stringers; at the centre eight medallions turn around a spiral. The oak is the base, the doussie holds the red ring, the wenge draws the leaves, the ash lights up in the stringers and the dots, the walnut warms the scrolls. The woods are not fixed — each of the six can be replaced if you want a different balance, without moving the pattern. A piece for a formal room, with space around it.
