Hieroglyph Rosette

A maze of straight and arced bands turning around a cross-shaped sign in the middle — that is where the name comes from. The field is ash, light and even; every band is walnut, cut into it. Two woods, but about ninety separate pieces, each one fitted on its own. The woods shown are a suggestion — we swap either of them and the pattern is kept. It sits well in a study or a quiet reception room, where the geometry has time to be read.
